What did you think when you were told
Your child was worth much more than gold?
Did you know the price he’d pay,
The suffering in his last day
The desolation and the loss,
To bear our sins upon a cross
And if you had the right to choose
Would your son or mankind lose?
I guess it’s good you did not know
The price you’d pay so long ago.
Or did you know the pain you’d feel,
When God gave all for us to heal?
Perhaps you sensed what he must do
Though he was still a part of you.
And still you chose to follow God,
In your gift, you gave him laud.
So souls were saved and man was free
To choose his fate, his destiny,
Because your son came to be
The gift of life on Calvary.
